- 10 years ago, radio.de launched in Germany as a website
- Today, radio.net is an international umbrella brand with 10 platforms in 14 languages, usable worldwide and free of charge with any computer, smartphone and the most popular connected devices such as SONOS and Amazon Echo
Hamburg, 20 April 2018. Ten years ago, radio.de launched as a free website in the browser to finally make the world of web radio easily and directly accessible to every user. Over the past ten years, the idea has developed into a worldwide service that is available on all relevant connected devices. With a total of more than 25 million app downloads and 33 million monthly IVW visits, the service is Germany’s largest radio platform.
To mark its tenth anniversary, radio.de is giving away numerous prizes for the best radio enjoyment at www.hoerenswert.de. From the latest top smartphones from Apple and Samsung and speakers from SONOS to high-quality headphones from Teufel and the compact Amazon Echo Dots.
With radio.de, users always have more than 30,000 radio stations, web radios and podcasts from Germany and around the world with them. The offering ranges from their favorite local station and special music streams to news stations with reports and podcasts on special topics.
The service is available as an app for smartphones and tablets and is represented on the major connected device platforms such as Amazon Alexa and SONOS. In this way, radio.de brings real choice to the world of radio conveniently and, in the smart home era, also via voice control. With its own radio.de Alexa Skill, the wide range of stations can already be used on many devices. The radio.de SONOS integration combines sound quality and multiroom audio with real variety. On TVs, the service can also be used via Apple’s tvOS, Amazon Fire TV and Google Chromecast.
In addition to the free app, there is also a paid PRIME version that completely dispenses with video and banner advertising in the app.
radio.de is also represented with its wide range of stations in the automotive sector. As a database partner for well-known car manufacturers, radio.de extends the audio offering, for example in the new Audi A8 or in the Porsche Connect and Smart Connect apps.
“Having started as a website in Germany, radio.net is now active worldwide with 10 platforms and in 14 languages. Despite all the change, the core of our service remains the same: ‘Simply listen to radio’. Whether at the computer, on the go with a smartphone or in the car,” says Bernhard Bahners, Managing Director of radio.net. “In our age of smart speakers and connected devices, radio and podcasts play a central role in usage. And the future of radio is more exciting than ever before.”
